Fabulous debut at the BBC Proms in London

On August 28th, 2016 Elisabeth Kulman made her highly acclaimed debut at the BBC Proms in London singing Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Songs under Semyon Bychkov at the Royal Albert Hall. Read the fabulous reviews Elisabeth Kulman got for her performance:

  • Mezzo Elisabeth Kulman brought rare grace to Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder – the beauty of her ‘Im Treibhaus’ took the breath away. (Independent)
  • The Wagner, with Elisabeth Kulman the immaculate soloist and Bychkov keenly alert to the music’s refined sensuality, was utterly beguiling. (The Guardian)
  • Here mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman gave the songs a lovely chaste quality, supported with the utmost delicacy by Bychkov and the BBC SO, which was surprising and deeply moving. (The Telegraph)
  • Kulman sang with a golden, even tone and impeccable attention to Mathilde Wesendonck’s text. (The Times)
  • Kulman – an experienced Brangäne and Fricka on stage – brought out the music’s ardour with an even tone across the whole range and her diction, in particular, was exemplary – not an easy thing to achieve in the Albert Hall’s cavernous space. (bachtrack)
  • … featuring the super mezzo of Austrian singer Elisabeth Kulman, making her Proms debut. … her simply lovely voice. Her diction, too, was spot on. It was wonderful, too, how Bychkov and Kulman conspired to find a real plateau of peace in the Tristan-drenched ‘Im Treibhaus’; … Kulman was once more superb, her pitching at “Allvergessen, Eingedenken!” absolutely spot-on. (Seen and Heard International)
  • … featured Austrian mezzo Elisabeth Kulman – a singer with a gloriously warm middle range allied to a secure limpid top register, so that the occasional forays high above the stave were given their due measure. Her diction was superb, and she bought intimacy and poise aplenty. (Classical Source)
